Derick and Heavy Hitter were officially invited to be a part of the Monster Jam World Finals Young Guns Shootout! For more information, check out MonsterJam.com!
The Heavy Hitter team has definitely been the center of attention everywhere it goes, and Indianapolis showed that the team can run with anyone, anywhere, anytime. Derick brought Heavy Hitter out for a respectable performance in racing, with his aim to be in the Young Guns Shootout in Las Vegas, and rookie Stevie Snellen gave a good accounting of himself also.
“It’s Vegas or bust for us,” said Derick. “I love monster trucks, it’s my hobby, but it’s also my passion and I want to make sure that we’re at the World Finals competing in the Young Guns Shootout.”
Anson didn’t win the event in racing, but he did take some victories before losing to the eventual race winner on a few bad bounces. When freestyle came, Snellen got things started off beautifully, with some big air and a great sidewall-scraping save. The truck stayed on the ragged edge and all fours and set the table for Anson to come out and deliver a great performance as well, launching the truck all over the place and even getting a few slap wheelies. When the dust settled, Heavy Hitter was near the top of the scoreboard and ended up with a solid finish for the total event.
This week, it’s a trip to St. Louis Missouri and the Edward Jones Dome, where a sold-out house will be looking for only the best and hardest-running trucks. Anson and Snellen are looking to live up to that billing. We’ll keep you posted after Saturday’s big event! Check out videos from the event in our Media section now.
Derick and Stevie took Heavy Hitter and River Rat on wild rides the first two weeks of the season! Week 1 saw Stevie Snell take River Rat all the way to the finals one night in racing, while Derick rocked the house and won racing one night after a rollover ended things early, then took a second place in freestyle the following night.
“I want Vegas real bad this year,” said Anson. “Young Guns Shootout Competitor is my goal. I’m willing to run this truck as hard as it will go to reach that goal.”
With that in mind, Week 2 saw Anson pull off a second-fastest qualifying run and make it to the third round of racing, narrowly losing to Lee O’Donnell and Iron Man after a bobble in the second turn.
“If you’re gonna lose, you may as well lose to the guy that wins the thing,” said Anson.
In freestyle, Anson was in the leader’s chair the majority of the event, narrowly losing by one point in a freestyle event that went right down to the wire. Next up the team has another great show this weekend at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis. Take a look at our Schedule page and be on the lookout for more updates!
More schedule updates are on the way. In the meantime, check out the videos below. Steve and Derick have been running hard and fast and are excited to get things rolling for 2014!
Check out 2 videos from Lake County Fair from this summer. First up is Racing Between Heavy Hitter and teammate truck River Rat, then comes a freestyle from River Rat.
Lima was a solid show for Heavy Hitter and River Rat, and the team has been building great chemistry as they look forward to more summer shows. Those new shows are now on the schedule, including a new date in Wisconsin!
Derick and company have been running hard (isn’t that the only way?) this summer and picking up a lot of victories along the way. River Rat is doing well with Steve behind the wheel and we have added Indianapolis to our Schedule. Check it out on the Events page.
“I couldn’t be more happy with how things went, and I’m proud of our team and this championship,” he said. “I can’t wait to tear it up even more this summer and use this momentum we have going forward!”
Look for more from Derick, Heavy Hitter, and River Rat very soon!
